Tips to Save Money When Buying a Used SUV
The used SUV market is experiencing unprecedented growth, and for good reason. However, because demand is so high, it’s all the more important for buyers to do their research and take the necessary steps to ensure they’re getting a good deal. With that in mind, we’ve put together a few tips to help you save money on your used SUV purchase.
Compare Sellers
Prices can vary between independent retailers, large franchises and private sellers, so make sure to consider the reputation of the used SUV seller and determine if they are a reliable company/individual.
Research Prices
Before you visit a private seller or used car dealership, consider researching models you like and checking their prices in the used car market. You can check prices using a price comparison website. Once you know the pricing of different models, you’ll be in a better position to negotiate with the seller.
Check the History of A Car
The images provided by the seller may indicate that the SUV is in great shape, but pictures seldom convey the entire picture. Check the vehicle history report to know if the vehicle was in any accidents and if it has been maintained well. If you find that the vehicle has gone through major modifications or was in multiple accidents, it’s best to continue looking.
Look for Signs of Damage
Attention to detail is vital when shopping for a used SUV. Before your test drive, take time to inspect the vehicle for signs of wear and damage. These indications may not always be obvious, so look for things like doors that are difficult to close and open, mismatching paintwork, a foul smell in the cabin, etc. Also, take a close look at the SUV’s tires. Disproportionate tread wear may indicate that the tracking is not straight. Other signs of neglect may include dry rubber on the tyres, cracking, etc.
Get a Professional’s Opinion
It can never hurt to have a seasoned mechanic inspect the SUV with you. You may need to pay a little extra for a professional inspection, but the money is well spent since a pro may be able to spot issues that you can’t.
